  • Importing from Brazil in 2027: Cheaper Than It Looks, Riskier Than It Feels

My reading of the numbers, the tariffs and the port costs — after nearly thirty years shipping out of Brazil. From the factory floor to the container: what a 2027 export order actually looks like. The short version · Valuation: Brazil trades at roughly a 46% discount to global equities — but the discount depends entirely on which window you measure. · Cost structure: the 37,5% US tariff and a 50% freight increase now sit inside your landed cost. Freight alone can erase the entire currency discount. · Supply shock: polymer prices (HDPE, PP, PE, PVC) moved violently in 30 days. Plastics became a cash-timing game. · Entry point: Lock the rate / pay in advance to order. Real at R$ 5.56. I've exported from Brazil for nearly thirty years, and every week the same question lands in my inbox: does it still pay to import from Brazil? Here is my reading of the numbers and the politics. Where I'm guessing, I'll say so. Large rotomolded polyethylene planters, Floridis line, in a contemporary outdoor garden setting. The starting point, in numbers This is a 2027 planning read, written from the October 2026 base. On October 23rd the Brazilian market traded at a P/E of 10.73 — against 13.44 for Emerging Markets and 20.01 for All World. A discount of roughly 46%. The EWZ iShares MSCI Brazil ETF closed at US$ 42.59 (+1.77%), 14.53% above its 200-day moving average and 10.74% above the 50-day. The market was leaning optimistic. That optimism did not survive the weekend. But the window you choose changes the verdict: Window Average P/E Deviation Reading Last 1 year 11.68 −1.12σ Undervalued Last 5 years 8.29 +1.48σ Overvalued Last 10 years 10.06 +0.35σ Fair Last 20 years 10.14 +0.41σ Fair It depends entirely on the window. Anyone who says “cheap” or “expensive” without naming the window or the sector / range or categories of products is selling something. For anyone buying from Brazil in dollars, this is the window. It is also the most volatile window in years. Nothing here is investment advice. What changed in Brazil import costs in 2026 The US tariff is no longer a scenario — it's a cost line On July 15, 2026 the USTR closed its Section 301 investigation and applied 25% + 12,5% additional tariff on most Brazilian products, with exemptions under Annexes I and II, published in the Federal Register on July 20. The tariff lands in the landed cost. The small retailer or the end consumer absorbs it — a shop owner with rent to pay can't pass 20% along without losing the customer. And the Brazilian artisan depends on that shop staying open. That chain is shorter than most importers realize. Ocean freight rose more than intuition suggests Lane Then Now Brazil to US East Coast under US$ 2,000 per FEU over US$ 3,200 per FEU Santos to US Gulf US$ 975 approximately US$ 2,400 Bunker sits at US$ 795 per tonne. On a low-value-density product, freight alone eats the entire 10% currency discount. If you're shipping light and bulky, this is the number that decides your margin — not the exchange rate. Brazil polymer prices and the plastics supply shock HDPE in Brazil reached USD 1,160/MT in September 2026, against USD 1,001/MT in Q1 — a rise of roughly 16% across the year. The quarterly index tells a more violent story: +17.37% in the quarter ending March, then +65.9% quarter-over-quarter as Braskem rationed domestic allocations. PP, PE and PVC stacked gains of up to 80% in the same period. Braskem capped supply at 35% of monthly purchase intent in Phase 02. Camex kept the 20% import duty, plus a 79% antidumping duty on polyethylene. The takeaway: plastics bought with cash, with no shelf life, capture the depreciated real before the pass-through. That is a timing advantage most importers miss. Injection-molded plastic organizers and housewares, São Bernardo line, in an organized kitchen setting Brazil port fees and hidden import costs Carriers and ports are clashing over an environmental fee. Santos charges US$ 900 to 1,000 per ship for the certificate; Salvador and Itajaí imposed similar rules; Centronave obtained an injunction at Antaq. Portaria 196, from the São Paulo Port Captaincy (September 29th, 2026), changes the Lighthouse Usage Fee and anchoring rules. Manaus in low-water season carries a surcharge. None of this appears in a catalog price. All of it appears in your invoice. Thinking about a first container? Send me your category and target volume — I'll tell you what still fits profitably inside a landed cost at today's freight and tariff levels, and what doesn't. The political part, without the spin What I observe: broader regulation over digital platforms, rising compliance costs, and a live debate about taxing technological tools. What I assume — and I'll flag it as an assumption: this makes selling online dearer and cuts predictability. I could be wrong. I also expect short-term taxation of LCI and LCA, which makes working capital dearer and squeezes payment terms. And foreign direct investment may turn around. Brazilian real above 5.50: who wins and who pays For anyone buying from Brazil in dollars, the weak real is a genuine advantage. That's arithmetic. For the Brazilian importer buying abroad, it's a cost. It's easy to celebrate the rate — someone on the other end pays more for the same product. Land neighbors — Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia — skip ocean freight and the US tariff altogether. If you ship by sea: check cubage, added value and shelf life, and always quote freight per m³ (1 m³ = 35.31 cubic feet). A per-container quote hides everything that matters. Crystal Quartz Carved X chandelier. - Hand-sculpted Ceramic by Aver Design. What still works The export facilitation programs for handcraft are still running — and two lines carry most of the weight for importers right now. Eterna Flora is the strongest entry point for designers and specifiers: preserved botanical wall pieces that hold their form through transit and read as gallery-grade in hospitality and contract projects. The Cornicci headdress wall art is the other one — a sculptural, 100% natural-fiber piece that is export-grade by construction: pest-treated, museum-framed, thermally shocked and documented to clear US (APHIS) and EU customs. That documentation is the difference between a decorative object and an importable product. An artisan piece competes on identity, not on price. The Brazilian artisan is usually small and depends on this trade to survive — that's not sentiment, it's the reason the supply chain is still standing. And the Desenrola programs for indebted companies change the negotiating table. Contemporary Brazilian Netural Headdress Wall Art by Cornicci from Paraíba. What I'd do in your position Pay cash and negotiate. The manufacturer needs cash flow now, and whoever holds cash holds power. But the window closes once the market finishes repricing the political risk of the next four years. Contract clauses to negotiate into every order: 1. Advance payment — tied to a verified production milestone, not to a signature. 2. Currency hedge — define who absorbs the FX move and from which date. 3. Tariff repactuation — if a tariff changes between order and shipment, the price reopens. 4. Commercial force majeure — covers freight spikes and port closures, not just catastrophes. 5. Consolidated cargo on a single invoice — several manufacturers, one document set, one customs entry. Round coffee table with Roman Travertine stone top and three conical legs, styled with a Brazilian handcrafted wooden-block decorative piece in Expo Gramado Show. Choosing a Brazil sourcing partner: red flags to avoid A customs broker handles documents. An honest partner visits the factory, checks that the catalog is what actually ships in the box, and consolidates several manufacturers into one invoice. Red flags to walk away from: · A catalog with no technical specs — no dimensions, no material, no load rating. · A factory nobody has visited. · A price that changes after the order is placed. · An Incoterm nobody on their side can explain. Start importing from Brazil: request your FOB quote The scenario is uncertain, and I don't own a crystal ball. What I offer is nearly thirty years of process — mistakes already paid for — and the willingness to tell you when you shouldn't buy. The full line is at consolidabrazil.com/catalogs. Which category would you test first? Pick your items from the catalog and send me the quantities — I'll reply with FOB pricing and a realistic landed cost, freight and tariff included. Consolida Brazil visited its partners in Bento Gonçalves (South of Brazil) during the Movel Sul 2018. You will find more information about the event at http://www.movelsul.com.br/en/ . The website is available in English and Spanish as well. At the trade show several brands showed similar variations of planned furniture. Fortunately, innovation and space organizing concepts have been assimilated as a necessity by national manufacturers. Also the conciliation of wood and steal work is becoming usual but still a few factories have perceived this trend here in Brazil. Madebal launched into the market new finishes for the Rima line and the new BALSA collection. Look this fantastic woodcraft effect. Its catalog will be updated at consolidabrazil.com soon. Madebal - Balsa Line Madebal Rima Line - New Finish https://www.madebal.com.br/produtos/categoria/linha-rima/linha/colecao-madeira-eco-grandis Manufacturer Highlighted - HAIFA www.haifafeitoamao.com.br showed its portfolio of demolition wood (Peroba) furniture. Its style is rustic I considered it well-finished and also have a stylish country appeal. Very keen. The company CEO told me they are experienced exporting so it is a supplier to be analyzed as a opportunity. Opportunity to the Brazilian furniture industry - Considering the conciliation of wood and steal work, take a look at this model sold at LE CREUSET BISTRO in USA. It is a simple design but how many brazilian brands are doing something like that ?

  • Why Use Live Plants in Interior Decoration?

During the day, plants greatly contribute to creating a fresher and more oxygenated environment, providing us with a place within reach where we can reconnect with nature. The sensation of tranquility and harmony purifies spaces, reduces dust, adds humidity to the atmosphere, and decreases the proportion of harmful gases for the health inside our homes. These are the simple and main reasons why live plants can be a transformative element in interior decoration. Window Flower Pot In workplaces with spacious and modern-style rooms, tropical plants of good size such as rubber tree (ficus elastica), fiddle-leaf fig tree (ficus lyrata), or elegant palm trees work well. In planters, various species can be combined, such as the Chamaedorea (Chamaedorea elegans), which has the advantage of needing little natural light and grows well under fluorescent lights. Even a Amsterdam pot can accommodate the Sansevieria (Sansevieria Trifasciata), known in Brazil as lança-de-são-jorge, which superstitiously protects the home from the evil eye. Planters compositions at Work Spaces In the kitchen, it is not advisable to place species with velvety leaves and delicate flowers, as they are difficult to clean, and it would be almost impossible to remove the grease. On the contrary, medium to large and glossy leaves can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Remember: Maintaining live plants in interior decoration must be a practiced habit. Herbs like parsley and oregano are a good suggestion for cultivation here. The presence of water and humidity in the bathroom promotes the development of flowers and plants. Also bathrooms are the best place to take advantage of mirrors to multiply the volume of plants. The hues of the begonia (begonia rex), for example. General tips for decorating the interior of your home with beautiful plastic plant pots. Plants with glossy leaves · In many instances, placing plants in strategic locations contributes to the separation of two spaces that can host different atmospheres. · Green plants brighten spaces covered with light-toned woods. Red plants contrast with blue walls and upholstery. In a well-lit area, you can place a Dracaena (Dracaena Schyveriana). · Only large plants can be placed, and in an isolated manner, if the rooms are very spacious · Romantic-style bedrooms gain a special charm when decorated with small flowering plants such as violets (Violaceae).
