It specializes in cowhide products, such as rugs and leather goods, and also boasts a rich tradition in rock crystal mining. Additionally, it is a significant industrial hub for furniture and transportation manufacturing.
In terms of culture, the Gaúcho, as the natives of this state are called, take pride in their traditions and customs. They are known for their skill in preparing a great barbecue. Due to the cold climate, the poncho, an old gaucho garment, and the use of animal hides are still commonly seen.
